Lavy works predominantly in the medium of Video installation, working across still, moving image and sculpture. She gained her BA (Hons) from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem and her MA in Contemporary Art Practice from the Royal college of Art London. In 2012 Lavy studied at Hongik University Soul, South Korea, which led her to create work internationally including throughout South East Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Gili Lavy continuously investigates the relationship between belief and identity, questioning the effect that time and ritual have on their creation and demolition. Her work focuses on the shifting borders between conventional faith and her own constructed beliefs systems. Lavy’s work reflects upon the transitions within several beliefs and their implication on existence. These transitioning realities, within lands, forgotten histories and theological views, are examined by Lavy’s own superimposed belief system.

Gili Lavy’s work has been exhibited and screened in a wide range of Galleries, Museums, Art Biennales and Festivals including Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, Art Basel, Unit Gallery London, Palazzo Strozzi Foundation Florence, Petach Tikva Museum of Art, Epos International Art Festival, Nao Nakamura Tokyo, Israel Museum, Prix Europa Berlin, New Now Amsterdam, Art Dubai, Hongik Museum Seoul, The Center for Contemporary Art TLV and Dyson Gallery London.
