Vito Žuraj was born in 1979 in Maribor, Slovenia.
He studied composition in Ljubljana (Marko Mihevc), Dresden (Lothar Voigtländer) and Karlsruhe (Wolfgang Rihm). In 2009/2010 he was fellow at the International Ensemble Modern Academy. Cooperations among others with New York Philharmonic, RSO SWR Stuttgart, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien and Scharoun Ensemble Berlin, at festivals such as Salzburger Festspiele, Manifeste Paris, Ultraschall Berlin, Takefu Japan and Gaudeamus Muziekweek Utrecht. Vito Žuraj was awarded the 1st Prize at the 57th City of Stuttgart Composition Competition and holds a lectureship for instrumentation and Gregorian chant at the Karlsruhe University of Music. For 2014 he is artist in residence at the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo.
